Today students participated in our Douglas Island Deer Study. Students were VERY well behaved and had a great time. All of their teachers are very proud of the fine work they completed over the past several weeks! We will use the data that we collected today to make estimations of deer populations in various habitats and elevations on Douglas Island. Keep an eye out for an upcoming article in the Juneau Empire which will showcase our work.

Well we had a great time doing our deer study. The weather was cooperative, just a bit of sprinkles. Be sure to take the wet clothes out of your backpack.

Tomorrow in science the class will be tested over the procedures that we will follow during Friday's field trip to Douglas Island.
Homework: Students need to bring boots (or old shoes that can get wet), a raincoat, rain pants, and winter hat to school by tomorrow so we can begin checking that everyone is prepared for our field trip. We strongly recommend that students come to school Friday with a bagged lunch, dry set of clothes and backpack to carry their materials. We will be leaving DHMS at 10:00 on Friday and will be returning around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Due to the 40 mph winds and heavy rain forecasted for Tuesday (tomorrow) we have decided to reschedule the field trip to this Friday. Students will leave school around 10:00 after their exploratory classes. We will return to Dzantik'i Heeni between 2:30 and 2:45. Students will need to bring boots, rain coats, hats and gloves by Thursday of this week.
